Kristine Harris is an Associate Professor and currently serves as Graduate Advisor and Deputy Chair of the History Department at SUNY New Paltz. She holds a B.A. in Chinese & English from Wellesley College and both M.A. and Ph.D. in East Asian Languages & Cultures from Columbia University.
Her research focuses on the cultural history of modern China with particular emphasis on intersections between media, cinema, and sociocultural transformation. She has held visiting roles including Visiting Associate Professor of Cinema and Media Studies at the University of Chicago, and visiting scholar positions at UC Berkeley and the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences.
Prof. Harris has directed the Asian Studies program at SUNY New Paltz and maintains active collaborative networks in both North American and Chinese academic institutions. Her interdisciplinary work bridges historical analysis with contemporary cultural studies.
