Kristin Horton is an Associate Professor of Practice in Theater & Directing at New York University’s Gallatin School of Individualized Study, where she also serves as Chair of the Interdisciplinary Arts Program. She holds a B.A. in Religion from Emory University (1994) and an M.F.A. in Directing from the University of Iowa (2003).
Her research and practice focus on directing new plays, community-engaged performance, and adaptations of classical texts to explore themes of race, gender, and class. Notable works include AFTER/LIFE: DETROIT '67, WHITELISTED, and adaptations of Sophocles’ ANTIGONE and Shakespeare’s THE RAPE OF LUCRECE. She has collaborated with institutions like the Lark Play Development Center, Contemporary American Theater Festival, and NYUAD Institute.
Horton’s career emphasizes socially conscious theater, including projects with NoPassport, Dream Act Union, and the Center for Creative Activism. She has received multiple accolades, including NEA/TCG and Sundance fellowships, and has taught at Fordham College and Cornell College.
Her teaching expertise includes advanced Shakespeare performance and interdisciplinary arts pedagogy. She is a member of the Stage Directors and Choreographers Society (SDC).
