Kristin A. Baughman

Kristin A. Baughman is an Associate Professor (Clinical) at the S.J. Quinney College of Law, University of Utah. She previously taught legal research and writing at Brigham Young University’s J. Reuben Clark Law School and served as Acting Director of the Rex E. Lee Advocacy Program (2023-2024). Her roles include litigation skills instruction and leading the first-year legal methods course, emphasizing written/oral advocacy and legal analysis.

Education:

• J.D., magna cum laude and Order of the Coif, J. Reuben Clark Law School, Brigham Young University
• B.A. in Political Science, cum laude, Brigham Young University (minor: Economics)

With nearly 20 years of litigation experience, her practice focuses on complex commercial, appellate, intellectual property, and real estate litigation. She has argued appeals in Utah’s appellate courts and federal circuits. Her pro bono work includes immigration law via collaboration with the Florence Immigrant and Refugee Rights Project. She currently practices in an Of Counsel role at Dentons Durham Jones Pinegar.

Teaching & Scholarship: Teaches Legal Research & Writing (e.g., 2024 course). Her scholarly work bridges legal history and political theory, as evidenced by her 2004 article on Jeffersonian political dynamics.
