About
Kristen M. DeAngelis is a Professor in the Department of Microbiology at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Her research focuses on microbial ecology, climate change impacts on soil ecosystems, and applications to biofuel development. She leads the Molecular Microbial Ecology Lab, examining soil carbon dynamics and microbial responses to environmental changes.
Education: Ph.D. in Microbiology from the University of California, Berkeley (2006).
Research interests include understanding microbial community structure/function, climate change effects on rhizosphere interactions, and anaerobic decomposition in forest soils. Key projects address soil carbon storage, greenhouse gas emissions, and scaling microbial functions from single-cell to ecosystem levels.
Labs/Teams: Molecular Microbial Ecology Lab, collaborating with students and postdocs on climate solutions through microbial systems. Advising includes mentoring undergraduate and graduate researchers listed in her lab group.
