University of North Carolina at GreensboroAbout
Kristen Dellinger is an Assistant Professor in the Nanoengineering department at North Carolina A&T State University. Her research focuses on applying engineering principles to address challenges in human health and medicine, particularly through the development of next-generation surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) techniques and smart biomaterials. She is actively involved in the SynBio Journal Club at JSNN and serves as an industrial mentor in the NSF iCORPS program. Dellinger is also passionate about STEM education, designing undergraduate laboratory curricula to introduce cell culture techniques and promoting early exposure to research among youth.
Her awards include a 2019 One North Carolina Small Business Program SBIR grant ($50,000) and a 2018-2019 NSF Phase I SBIR grant ($225,000). She has received scholarships such as the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada National Level Scholarship (2010-2014) and the McGill University Entrance Scholarship (2009). Her teaching includes courses like NANO 703 (Chemical-Biochemical Principles of Nanoengineering), NANO 782 (Techniques in Synthetic Biology), and NANO 882 (Advanced Biomedical Nanomaterials).
Her research spans biomedical engineering, biomaterials, and synthetic biology, with a focus on translating nanotechnology into clinical applications. Recent work includes exploring sustainable biomedical practices (e.g., horseshoe crab conservation) and developing lipid-based drug delivery systems for cardiovascular and endocrine disorders.
