Kristen Brown Golden is an Associate Professor of Philosophy and Director of Peace and Justice Studies at Millsaps College. She holds a Ph.D. in Philosophy from Vanderbilt University (1995), an M.A. in Philosophy (1993), and a B.A. in History from Stanford University (1986). Her research focuses on philosophy of race, embodiment, European philosophy, existentialism, phenomenology, feminist philosophy, and psychoanalysis. She has received awards including the Mississippi Humanities Council Teaching Award (2022-2023) and a National Endowment for the Humanities grant (2015-2017) to develop a course on 'Is Peace Possible?'
Her publications include Nietzsche and Embodiment (2006), co-edited The Trauma Controversy (2009), and recent articles on racial colorblindness and implicit bias. Teaching focuses include social/political philosophy, environmental ethics, and the philosophy of happiness. Before philosophy, she was an avid volleyball player in California.
