Professor Konstantin Lindner serves as Professor of Religious Education and Didactics of Religious Education at the Institute of Catholic Theology within the Faculty of Humanities and Cultural Studies at Otto-Friedrich University of Bamberg. Appointed in April 2011 and serving as Chair Holder since March 2018, he leads one of Germany's prominent departments for religious education studies. His academic leadership extends to multiple institutional roles including Managing Director of the Institute for Catholic Theology and spokesperson for the Conference of Religious Education Teachers at Bavarian Universities.
Dr. Lindner completed his teacher education studies at the University of Regensburg (1996-2001), earned his Doctor of Theology in December 2006, and completed his habilitation at the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg in November 2015. His academic journey includes research assistant positions at both Regensburg and Bamberg universities, followed by teaching service before his professorial appointment.
Lindner's research focuses on contemporary challenges in religious education within increasingly pluralistic and secular contexts. His work examines digital religious learning, denominational cooperation in education, values formation, and interreligious education. He leads significant research projects including StReBe (Strengthening denominational religious education at vocational schools), DiKuLe (Religious learning in digital culture), and DiSo-RE (Digital blended learning in religious education). His scholarship addresses practical applications of religious education theory across educational levels from primary schools to vocational institutions.
As an academic leader, Professor Lindner coordinates the Master's program 'Understanding Religions,' serves on the editorial board of the journal 'Religious Education Contributions,' and heads the DAAD-funded internationalization project 'Bamberg Teacher Education for a Global and Sustainable World.' He actively contributes to curriculum development for Catholic religious education in Bavaria through the Curriculum Commission Gymnasium/LehrplanPLUS.
His supervision of numerous academic works demonstrates commitment to mentoring the next generation of religious educators. Research topics under his guidance span theodicy in primary education, religious symbolism in contemporary media, digitalization trends, and biographical learning approaches. His work reflects deep engagement with how religious education can maintain relevance while addressing contemporary societal challenges.
