Koen Lombaerts

Prof. Koen Lombaerts is a Full Professor in Educational Sciences at Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) and chairs the Brussels Centre for Innovation, Learning, and Diversity (BILD) research group. His work focuses on self-regulated learning (SRL), educational change, and innovative learning environments. He has led international projects on SRL integration, teacher professionalization, and technology-enhanced learning. Key areas include fostering SRL through psychological and pedagogical strategies, and enhancing learning environments in primary/secondary education.

Education: PhD in Educational Sciences from VUB. Supervised over 80 PhD candidates and published 164+ articles. Active in projects like RESCALE (2025-2027), COCO_ENV (2024-2029), and QUALAS (2023-2026).

Research interests span citizenship education, student engagement, and metacognition. Awards include the 2017 Best Poster Award. His work is embedded in the BILDLab for hybrid teaching/learning innovation.
