About
Prof. Klaas Martinus Pos is a W3-Professor at the Institute of Biochemistry, Goethe University Frankfurt, Germany. His research focuses on membrane transport machineries, structural biology, and synthetic cellular engineering. He has held academic positions since 2004, including roles as CEF-Professor and Managing Director of the Institute of Biochemistry (2010–2013). His work addresses antibiotic resistance mechanisms, particularly multidrug efflux pumps in Gram-negative bacteria.
Education: PhD in Natural Sciences from ETH Zurich (1997), diploma in Biology from the University of Groningen (1992).
Research interests include molecular mechanisms of drug efflux, structural analysis of transporters, and development of efflux pump inhibitors. Key achievements include elucidating AcrB transporter dynamics and identifying novel inhibitors for antibiotic-resistant pathogens.
Notable awards include the Georg Friedrich Götz Award (2007), Mercator Award (2007), and Pfizer Euro Aspire Award (2012).
Advises graduate students and oversees a lab with postdocs and technicians. Collaborations focus on structural biology and antimicrobial resistance solutions.
