About
Dr. Kiran K G Ravindran is a Research Fellow at the Surrey Sleep Research Centre, University of Surrey, and the UK DRI Care Research & Technology Centre at Imperial College London. He holds a PhD in Biomedical Engineering from IIT Madras, where his work focused on low-cost EEG hardware and Brain-Computer Interfaces (BCI). His current research investigates sleep physiology in aging and dementia, emphasizing the evaluation of consumer sleep technologies (e.g., wearables, contactless devices) for clinical and home-based monitoring. Key areas include sleep electrophysiology, digital health tools, signal processing, and AI-driven solutions for real-world sleep assessment challenges.
Education: PhD and M.S. in Biomedical Engineering from IIT Madras (India). Professional affiliations include Fellowship at the University of Surrey's Centre of Excellence on Aging. Research tools developed include the ScoreREM GUI for REM sleep analysis.
Awards: UK DRI Pilot Award for independent lab development. Media engagements include a Sleep Research Society podcast discussing his work on longitudinal sleep monitoring in older adults and a Royal Society policy engagement fellowship.
Grants and collaborations extend to interdisciplinary projects on dementia care technology and aging physiology. He co-supervises MSc projects in AI for sleep transition forecasting and actively contributes to policy discussions on technology safety and consumer health.
Labs/Teams: Surrey Sleep Research Centre, UK DRI Care Research & Technology Centre. His work bridges engineering innovations with clinical applications, aiming to create scalable solutions for sleep and circadian health in aging populations.
