Kipum Lee, PhD, is an Assistant Professor of Design & Innovation at Case Western Reserve University’s Weatherhead School of Management and an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the School of Medicine. He also serves as Vice President of Enterprise Strategy & Innovation at University Hospitals Health System and as Editor of Design Issues, published by MIT Press.

Lee’s research focuses on complex systems and social change by design, with an emphasis on healthcare innovation and institutional entrepreneurship. His work bridges human-centered design with organizational aesthetics, exploring unorthodox methods of knowledge creation beyond traditional design thinking.
His publications span design theory, healthcare systems, and service innovation, addressing topics such as institutional design, patient experience, and technology integration in healthcare. Recent articles include critiques of design thinking and frameworks for clinical case management.
