Kimberly Smith

Kimberly Smith is a Professor of Art History at Southwestern University, specializing in 20th-century German and Austrian art, feminist art history, and art historiography. She holds a Ph.D., M.A., and M.Phil. from Yale University, and a B.A. from Duke University. Her research examines modernist movements, Expressionist art theory, and the intersection of art with politics, gender, and imperialism.

Key publications include Between Ruin and Renewal: Egon Schiele’s Landscapes (2004) and The Expressionist Turn in Art History (2014), which critically analyze Expressionist art’s historiography. Recent work focuses on wartime propaganda in Schiele’s landscapes and colonial themes in Franz Marc’s postcards.

Smith has presented at major conferences such as the German Studies Association and the Feminist Art History Conference.
