Kimberly Roaten, Ph.D., ABPP, is a Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at UT Southwestern Medical Center and serves as the Director of Quality for Safety, Education, and Implementation at Parkland Memorial Hospital. She joined the faculty in 2010 after completing her doctorate and fellowship in clinical health psychology at UT Southwestern. Her research focuses on improving suicide risk detection in healthcare systems and psychological recovery post-traumatic injuries, particularly burn survivors. Dr. Roaten leads the Universal Suicide Screening Program at Parkland Health & Hospital System, which earned the 2017 HIMSS Davies Award of Excellence. She is actively involved in teaching and supervising students and residents, contributing to the APA-accredited clinical psychology internship program.
Her education includes a Ph.D. in clinical psychology from UT Southwestern, followed by a clinical health psychology fellowship at the same institution. Dr. Roaten's research interests span suicide prevention strategies, trauma recovery, and burn injury rehabilitation. She has published extensively on these topics and serves as an ad hoc reviewer for journals such as Pediatrics, Psychiatry Research, and Burns: Journal of the International Society for Burn Injuries.
Dr. Roaten holds leadership roles in professional organizations, including membership in the American Association of Suicidology and the American Burn Association. Her contributions have been recognized through her service on the Texas Psychological Association’s Board of Trustees and her advocacy for quality improvement in mental health care systems.
