Kimberly Jones

Kimberly Jones serves as Professor of East Asian Studies and Special Assistant to the Dean in the College of Humanities at the University of Arizona, holding a Ph.D. from the University of Michigan.

Research Focus: As a leading sociolinguist, Dr. Jones investigates the intersection of gender and language systems, develops pedagogical frameworks through conversation analysis of natural discourse, and examines developmental linguistics in children including acquisition patterns, attrition phenomena, and bilingual code-switching behaviors.

Professional Leadership: Her national impact includes board membership with the Association of Teachers of Japanese, editorial stewardship as Language and Linguistics Editor for Japanese Language and Literature, and high-level consultancy for College Board and Educational Testing Service in designing the Advanced Placement Japanese Language and Culture curriculum and assessments.
