Kimberly Gokoffski, MD, PhD, is an Associate Professor of Ophthalmology and Associate Director of Research at the Institute for Technology and Medical Systems (ITEMS) at the Keck School of Medicine of USC. Her research focuses on optic nerve regeneration, particularly directing stem cells to repair vision loss caused by optic neuropathies. She leads projects investigating molecular signals guiding axon growth and applies electrical fields to steer stem cell axon regeneration.
Dr. Gokoffski’s clinical expertise includes neuro-ophthalmology, strabismus, and thyroid eye disease. She holds affiliations at Keck Hospital of USC and USC Norris Cancer Hospital. Her honors include the Thomas Carlow Young Investigator Award and BrightFocus Foundation grants.
Her lab develops technologies for optic nerve repair, emphasizing translational research from bench to clinical applications. Key collaborations include the Retinal Ganglion Cell Repopulation (RReSTORe) Consortium.
