Dr. Kimberly Emmons is Oviatt Professor and Associate Professor of English at Case Western Reserve University, where she also serves as Writing Program Director. Her research examines linguistic and rhetorical constructions of health and illness in contemporary discourse.
Education includes PhD and MA from University of Washington, and BA from Princeton University.
Research specialties include medical rhetoric, writing studies, and English linguistics. She investigates how language shapes understandings of mental health and illness in professional and public contexts.
Teaching encompasses History of the English Language, Language and Gender, Rhetorics of Health and Illness, and the Rhetoric and Teaching of Writing. Dr. Emmons contributes to writing pedagogy development through her program leadership.
