About
Kim Ravnskjaer is an Associate Professor at the University of Southern Denmark's Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, where he has been appointed since Spring 2018. He holds a PhD from the same institution (2006) and conducted postdoctoral research at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies (USA), investigating hormonal regulation in type 2 diabetes models. Dr. Ravnskjaer leads a research team focused on vascular/perivascular biology and liver fibrosis mechanisms in cardiometabolic diseases.
His research explores cellular drivers of NASH and liver fibrosis in obesity/diabetes contexts, aiming to develop early detection methods and novel therapies for advanced metabolic disease. Key interests include stellate cell dynamics, transcriptional regulation of fibrosis, and metabolic tissue plasticity. Recent publications emphasize liver disease biomarkers, single-cell analysis of fibrosis, and metabolic dysfunction.
Dr. Ravnskjaer holds leadership roles including:
- Work Package 2 lead for ATLAS 2.0 on hepatic tissue plasticity
- Co-founder of the Research Unit for Functional Genomics and Metabolism
He has received scientific recognition through stipends from:
- European Foundation for the Study of Diabetes (EFSD)
- European Commission
- Danish Council for Independent Research
His laboratory employs molecular biology and functional genomics approaches to investigate disease mechanisms and therapeutic targets.
