Dr. Kim Mueser is Professor in the Department of Occupational Therapy and Senior Researcher at the Center for Psychiatric Rehabilitation at Boston University. His research addresses cognitive impairments in serious mental illness and their impact on employment outcomes, with emphasis on developing and evaluating psychosocial interventions.
He co-developed the Thinking Skills for Work program, a cognitive remediation approach combining computer-based cognitive practice and compensatory strategy training to improve work functioning. Research examines family psychoeducation, treatment of co-occurring psychiatric/substance use disorders, and posttraumatic stress disorder treatment. His work is funded by NIMH, NIDILRR, and NARSAD.
Honors include the Gerard Hogarty Award for Excellence in Schizophrenia Research (2007) and Rehabilitation Practitioner of Distinction Award (2004). Current studies evaluate cognitive remediation in vocational and educational contexts for people with serious mental illness.
