About
Kieran Short is a Research Fellow in the Department of Anatomy & Developmental Biology at Monash University, within the Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences. His work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to health and well-being. He has held continuous academic roles since at least 1999, with over 36 published research outputs.
Research Interests: Dr. Short specializes in developmental biology, particularly kidney and lung morphogenesis, genetic disorders, and the molecular mechanisms underlying congenital conditions. His work integrates experimental biology with imaging and computational modeling to study branching morphogenesis, gene expression, and disease pathogenesis.
Key Contributions: His recent studies include developing therapies for polycystic kidney disease, analyzing laminin mutations in developmental disorders, and quantifying renal branching patterns. He has pioneered 3D imaging techniques for kidney development analysis, highlighted by media coverage from SBS World News in 2014.
- Awards: ANZSCDB 2017 Postdoctoral Poster Prize, Wellcome Image Awards 2011.
- Labs/Teams: Collaborates with groups led by Prof. Ian Smyth, Dr. David Cottle, and others on kidney development projects.
- Advising/Grants: Advises on projects involving renal physiology and developmental genetics; funding sources include institutional grants and collaborative research programs.
