About
Kevin T. Finneran is Professor of Environmental Engineering and Earth Sciences at Clemson University, with joint appointments in Microbiology. He holds a Ph.D. in Microbiology from University of Massachusetts Amherst and B.S. in Environmental Sciences from Rutgers University. Previously, he held positions at University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and worked as an environmental microbiologist at Geosyntec Consultants.
Research Focus
Professor Finneran's research focuses on environmental remediation using combined microbial-chemical reactions, particularly biodegradation of contaminants including chlorinated solvents, explosives, and petroleum hydrocarbons. His work explores extracellular electron shuttle-mediated biodegradation, uranium bioremediation, and anaerobic degradation pathways. Current investigations examine iron reduction processes in fuel-contaminated soils and microbial community dynamics in remediation systems.
