About
Kevin Nadal is a Professor at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, City University of New York, where he serves in the Psychology Department. He became the first Asian American faculty member at John Jay to be named Distinguished Professor, an honor awarded during Filipino American History Month in recognition of his exceptional scholarship on marginalized communities. His appointment makes him the tenth current Distinguished Professor at John Jay, the second person of color, and the youngest to receive this distinction.
Dr. Nadal's research focuses on the psychological impacts of discrimination, particularly microaggressions—subtle biases that communicate prejudice in everyday interactions. His work examines these phenomena through rigorous scientific frameworks while centering the experiences of Filipino Americans, Asian Americans, and LGBTQ+ people of color. Additional research explores intersections of identity within criminal justice systems and mental health disparities in underrepresented communities.
His scholarly contributions include:
- Teachers College Medal for Distinguished Service (2023)
- Distinguished Professor title from City University of New York
Dr. Nadal has secured over $240,000 in research and programming grants throughout his career. He mentors emerging scholars through professional organizations including the Asian American Psychological Association (where he served as Past President) and the LGBTQ Scholars of Color Network (which he co-founded).
