Michigan Technological UniversityAbout
Kevin M. Trewartha is an Associate Professor at Michigan Technological University, holding dual roles in the Department of Psychology and Human Factors and the Department of Kinesiology and Integrative Physiology. He serves as the Graduate Program Director for Psychology and Human Factors. Dr. Trewartha earned his PhD in Psychology from Concordia University (2012), MA from Concordia (2007), and BA from the University of Western Ontario (2004).
His research focuses on cognitive neuroscience of aging, examining neurocognitive mechanisms underlying motor behavior in healthy aging and dementia. Key areas include identifying age-related changes in motor performance and developing interventions to improve cognitive/motor function in older adults. He investigates sensorimotor control, memory, and cognitive control, with a goal to understand the neural basis of motor behavior across the lifespan.
Recent funding includes a NIH grant (1R15AG059095-01) exploring motor learning as a marker for Mild Cognitive Impairment and Alzheimer’s, and a Michigan Technological University grant studying resistance training’s impact on cognitive/physical function in older adults. His teaching spans Motor Learning, Aging Brain and Cognition, and Physiological Psychology.
Dr. Trewartha’s lab (linked via his profile) focuses on translating cognitive neuroscience insights into practical interventions for aging populations.
