Kevin B. Johnson, MD, MS, is the David L. Cohen University Professor of Biomedical Informatics, Computer and Information Science, Pediatrics, and Science Communication at the University of Pennsylvania. He holds joint appointments in the Department of Biostatistics, Epidemiology, and Informatics (Perelman School of Medicine) and the Department of Computer and Information Science (School of Engineering and Applied Science), with a secondary appointment at the Annenberg School for Communication. As Vice President for Applied Informatics at the University of Pennsylvania Health System, he leads efforts to integrate AI and health IT into clinical workflows.
Dr. Johnson's research focuses on clinical information systems, patient safety, and technology-driven healthcare equity. He pioneered e-prescribing and computer-based documentation systems, and has expanded into science communication through a documentary film, podcast (Informatics in the Round), and children’s book series (Who, Me?). His work emphasizes reducing disparities in healthcare access and improving outcomes for marginalized communities.
