Kevin A. O'Brien

Dr. Kevin A. O'Brien is a Visiting Professor in Digital Intelligence and Cyber Security at King's College London's Department of War Studies, within the School of Security Studies. He serves as a security consultant to governments and the private sector, with prior roles in the Canadian Government and RAND Europe. Holding a PhD from the University of Hull, his expertise spans over 30 years of research in intelligence, cyber security, and counter-terrorism.

His research focuses on Five Eyes alliances, cyber threats, African security dynamics, and the privatization of military/security functions. He actively contributes to King's Cyber Security Research Group and the King's Centre for the Study of Intelligence. Notable publications include analyses of Brexit's cyber implications, terrorism in West Africa, and South African intelligence history.

His policy work includes studies on active cyber defense mechanisms and counter-terrorism policymaking in Europe.
