Ketan D. Patel, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences at St. John’s University’s College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. He joined the faculty in 2016 after completing a postdoctoral fellowship at Florida A&M University on an NIH-funded lung cancer project. Dr. Patel holds a Ph.D. in Pharmaceutics from the Institute of Chemical Technology, Mumbai, India (2013), and an M.Pharm. from Mumbai University (2009), where he earned prestigious fellowships for academic excellence in engineering and pharmacy.
His research focuses on tumor-targeted nanotherapeutics for melanoma and pancreatic cancer, solubility enhancement techniques for anti-diabetic drugs, and innovative formulation technologies such as 3D printing and opioid abuse deterrents. He has authored over 50 peer-reviewed publications, holds five U.S. patents (three granted and two pending), and currently mentors five doctoral and two undergraduate students in his laboratory. Notable awards include the NIH grant for melanoma nanomedicine research and the Melanoma Research Scholar Award from Outrun the Sun, Inc.
Dr. Patel teaches advanced pharmaceutical courses including Pharmaceutics, Biopharmaceutics, and Industrial Pharmacy Journal Club. His work bridges academic research and clinical application through projects like nanocarrier-based cancer therapies and chemoprevention strategies for skin diseases.
