Ladislav Kesner is an Associate Professor at the Department of Art History, Faculty of Arts, Masaryk University Brno since 2007. He holds a Ph.D. in History of Arts (2004) and graduated in Sinology, Oriental Studies, and Art History from Charles University (1985). His academic roles include serving as Robert Arnheim Professor at Humboldt University Berlin (2013) and Visiting Professor at the University of Chicago (1995). He has held leadership positions such as Deputy General Director of the National Gallery in Prague (1996–98, 1991–93) and Director of Cultropa (1999–2006), managing museum projects.
- Research Interests: Art and neuroscience, aesthetics, historiography of art, psychology of art, art theory.
- Notable Grants: Fellowships at Wissenschaftskolleg Berlin (2007–2008), Getty Research Institute (2002), and Smithsonian Institution (1993–94).
Awarded the Gloria Musealis Award (2012), Josef Krása Prize (1998), and Arthur Kingsley Porter Prize (1995). Supervised 6 current PhD students and 16 MA theses (14 defended). Led the 'Image-Mind-Brain' research group at the National Institute of Mental Health (2015).
