Kesmat Taha Riyad Nassar is a Research Fellow at the University of Oslo's Faculty of Humanities, Department of History. His current research focuses on the history of Freemasonry in Egypt under colonial rule, examining its socio-political influences and cultural significance, particularly challenging mainstream narratives about Egyptian Freemasons and their roles in Middle Eastern nationalist movements.
He holds an M.A. in Linguistics from the American University in Cairo, where his thesis addressed radical Islamist propaganda. Prior to his doctoral studies, he worked as a faculty developer at the American University in Cairo.
He is currently a member of the Critical Historiography research group, affiliated with the Institute of History. His work emphasizes interdisciplinary approaches to historical analysis, blending colonial history with cultural studies.
