About
Univ.-Prof. Dr. med. Kerstin Steinbrink is a Professor at the Clinic for Dermatology at University Hospital Münster (Universitätsklinikum Münster), affiliated with the University of Münster's Medical School. She leads the Steinbrink Group: Molecular Immunology of the Skin and is actively involved in the Cells in Motion research program and Multiscale Imaging Centre. Her work bridges clinical dermatology with fundamental immunological research.
Professor Steinbrink's research focuses on immunology, particularly the induction and analysis of immune tolerance, molecular mechanisms of inflammatory skin diseases and skin cancer, contact hypersensitivity, and the therapeutic use of nanoparticles. Her work integrates molecular biology, immunology, and clinical dermatology to develop novel therapeutic approaches for challenging skin conditions. She has made significant contributions to understanding the immunological basis of skin disorders and developing targeted treatments.
Analysis of her recent publications (2017-2024) reveals consistent focus on skin immunology, with particular emphasis on dendritic cell function, Treg-mediated tolerance mechanisms, and nanoparticle-based drug delivery systems. Her research spans basic science investigations into immune tolerance mechanisms and clinical studies addressing conditions like vitiligo, chronic prurigo, pemphigus vulgaris, and bullous pemphigoid. The interdisciplinary nature of her work connects dermatology, immunology, nanotechnology, and vascular biology.
As principal investigator of the Steinbrink Group: Molecular Immunology of the Skin, she directs research exploring fundamental immunological processes in skin health and disease. Her laboratory work combines molecular techniques with clinical observations to translate basic discoveries into potential therapeutic applications, particularly in the areas of immune tolerance and nanoparticle-based interventions for inflammatory skin conditions.
