Kerstin Rudolph serves as Associate Professor of English and Chair of the English Department at Catawba College, where she also acts as Faculty Liaison for International Studies. Originally from Germany, she joined Catawba in August 2016 after teaching experiences in Illinois, upstate New York, and Mississippi.
Dr. Rudolph specializes in early and nineteenth-century American literature and African American literature. Her scholarly work initially focused on nineteenth-century race and gender relations, with more recent research expanding into Human-Animal Studies. As an Americanist by training, she brings interdisciplinary perspectives to her teaching and research.
Her peer-reviewed publications have appeared in respected journals including American Literary Realism and Legacy: A Journal of American Women Writers, as well as the edited collection Liminal Spaces, Hybrid Lives: Thresholds in American Women's Writing. While her publication record demonstrates expertise in American literary studies, her evolving research interests reflect contemporary scholarly trends in interdisciplinary approaches to literature.
Dr. Rudolph holds a Ph.D. from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and completed her undergraduate and master's studies at Universität zu Köln in Germany, giving her a distinctive international perspective on American literature.
