Kerstin Krellenberg

Kerstin Krellenberg is a Professor at the University of Vienna, Faculty of Earth Sciences, Geography and Astronomy, Department of Geography and Regional Research. She heads the Urban Studies working group and co-leads the Research Platform The Challenge of Urban Futures while serving as Climate Chair for the CircleU. Alliance.

Her research focuses on urban sustainability transformations, particularly climate change adaptation, urban vulnerability, and SDG localization. She emphasizes interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary approaches, examining socio-ecological-technical interactions in cities and the role of green infrastructure in mitigating heat hazards.

Recent publications highlight SDG governance, urban heat island resilience, and participatory tools for green space planning. Projects include ReCITY (2024–2027) for industrial city revitalization and Zoonoses Emergence (2024–2027) studying climate-forest health links.

She actively engages in teaching (e.g., Urban Sustainability Transformations, PhD Research Seminars) and leads the Urban Sustainability Living Lab at the University of Vienna.
