Kerry Smith is an Adjunct Instructor at the School of Writing, Rhetoric and Technical Communication at James Madison University. He holds an M.A. and B.A. in Writing, Rhetoric and Technical Communication from JMU and is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Writing and Rhetoric at George Mason University.

Smith’s research focuses on writing pedagogy, with an emphasis on transfer of learning, writing threshold concepts, and course design for first-year writing programs. He actively contributes to community-engaged writing initiatives and explores the intersection of rhetoric and reproductive justice.
His professional activities include presenting at national conferences such as the International Writing Center Association Annual Conference and the Writing Innovation Symposium. He has served as a committee member for Master’s thesis advising and participated in the MLA Institutes on Reading and Writing Pedagogy.
