Kern Alexander

Kern Alexander is Professor of International Banking and Financial Law and Chair for Law and Finance at the University of Zurich's Faculty of Law. He holds degrees from Cornell University (AB), University of Oxford (MSc), University of Cambridge (MPhil), and University of London (PhD).

His research expertise spans:

• Corporate governance of financial institutions
• Economic theories of financial regulation
• Financial sanctions regulation and policy

Professor Alexander's publications demonstrate consistent focus on financial regulation, antitrust economics, and crisis management. Recent work emphasizes digital markets, competition policy, and the interplay between financial systems and global crises.

He serves as Senior Research Fellow at the Institute of Advanced Legal Studies, member of the Oxera Economics Council, and Associate Editor of the International Journal of Industrial Organization. His leadership includes directing the University of Zurich's Competence Center for Sustainability and co-directing the Oxford Bank Governance Programme.
