Keoni Kauwe is a Professor of Biology and currently serves as President of Brigham Young University–Hawaii. Previously at Brigham Young University (Provo), he held roles including Professor of Biology, Department Chair (2018-2019), and Dean of Graduate Studies (2019-2020).

Dr. Kauwe is an internationally recognized researcher specializing in Alzheimer’s disease genetics. His work characterizes genetic architecture to discover cures, with additional research on rheumatic heart disease genetics and evolutionary genomics in fish and reptiles. The Kauwe Lab has identified over a dozen novel genetic risk factors for Alzheimer’s disease.
His research is supported by $6+ million in extramural grants. Dr. Kauwe serves as Senior Editor for Alzheimer’s & Dementia and led the international Alzheimer’s disease DREAM Challenge.
