Kent Puckett

Kent Puckett is a Professor and Ida May and William J. Eggers Jr. Chair in English at the University of California, Berkeley. He specializes in Critical Theory, 19th-Century British Literature, Film Studies, and Narrative Theory. Puckett joined the Berkeley English Department in 2002 after completing graduate studies at the University of Virginia and Columbia University.

His research interests include psychoanalysis, literary theory, and the intersection of narrative forms with social and political contexts. Notable works include The Electoral Imagination (2022), War Pictures (2017), and Bad Form (2008). Recent publications explore topics such as Keynesian economics in literature, WWII cinema aesthetics, and modernist narrative techniques.

Puckett has co-edited special issues on financialization and cultural production in Representations and frequently engages with interdisciplinary debates. His teaching focuses on British literature, theoretical frameworks, and narrative analysis. Office hours are held Wednesdays 1-3pm in Wheeler 235.
