Associate Professor Kenneth Sheedy is the founding Director of the Australian Centre for Ancient Numismatic Studies (ACANS) at Macquarie University. He holds a PhD in Classical Archaeology from the University of Sydney (1987) and has held roles including Deputy Director of the Australian Archaeological Institute at Athens and curator of the Sylloge Nummorum Graecorum (SNG) Project at the British Museum. His research focuses on Greek numismatics, particularly Archaic Athenian coinage, Cycladic archaeology, and the application of archaeometric techniques like XRF and neutron analysis. He leads the ARC-funded 'A spring of silver, a treasury in the earth' project examining Laurion silver's impact on Athenian political economy.
