About
Dr. Kenneth Nussear is an Associate Professor in the Ecology, Evolution and Conservation Biology program at the University of Nevada, Reno. His research investigates constraints on species distributions including thermoregulatory behavior, habitat connectivity, and dispersal limitations in desert ecosystems, particularly focusing on reptiles and conservation applications.
Nussear teaches advanced courses in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), drone applications, spatial analysis, and species distribution modeling. He holds FAA certification as a Remote Pilot for UAS operations and has professional certification in Effective Instruction from the Association of College and University Educators.
His publications address Mojave Desert species conservation, including desert tortoise translocation planning, climate change impacts on Gila monsters, and novel methods for rare plant population discovery. Nussear develops GIS-based approaches to model habitat use under changing environmental conditions.
