Kenneth Nelson

Professor Kenneth Nelson holds the Barnett Professorship in Social Policy at the Department of Social Policy and Intervention (DSPI), University of Oxford, and is also a Professor of Sociology at Stockholm University. He focuses on comparative research analyzing welfare states, social policy drivers, and their impacts on poverty, inequality, health, and employment.

• Current research projects include eco-social welfare states, sustainable development, in-work tax credits, dualization of social rights, and educational finance.
• He directs the Social Policy Indicators Database (SPIN) and co-chairs the European Social Policy Analysis Network (ESPAnet).
• His supervision includes DPhil and MSc students like Karan Kalsi, Paul Peña, and Alexis Wong.

  His recent publications emphasize decarbonizing welfare systems, social sustainability, and intergenerational equity. Key grant funders include the Swedish Research Council, UKRI, and Horizon Europe.
