Kenneth H. Carter serves as Bishop-in-Residence and Consulting Faculty at Duke Divinity School, Duke University. He holds roles as resident bishop of the Western North Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church and co-chair of the United Methodist–Roman Catholic Dialogue. His academic contributions include teaching in Christian leadership, Methodist studies, and church mission, alongside fellowships at the Center for Studies in the Wesleyan Tradition. He authored 18 books, including his 2023 publication Unrelenting Grace. Carter previously served as president of the Council of Bishops and moderator of the Commission on a Way Forward.
His research interests focus on Methodist theological traditions, ecumenical engagement, and practical church leadership. He actively participates in interfaith dialogues and denominational governance structures, such as the United Methodist–British Methodist Concordat and Wesley Works editorial board.
