Kenneth Anderson

Kenneth Anderson serves as a Lecturer in Music at the University of San Diego, directing the USD Gospel Choir while also leading the UCSD Gospel Choir and Martin Luther King Jr. Community Choir San Diego (MLK Choir). He concurrently holds an adjunct faculty position at City College, teaching the history of black music in America across the college and its high school satellite campuses.

His professional focus centers on music education, gospel traditions, historical analysis of Black music in America, operatic performance, and choral conducting. With decades of experience in San Diego's cultural landscape, he integrates academic instruction with community performance, emphasizing pedagogical excellence and artistic expression through vocal ensembles.

Dr. Anderson's distinguished recognition includes:

• Multiple Teacher of the Year Awards from UCSD colleges and sororities
• Musician of the Year by the National Association of Negro Musicians
• Arts Award from Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority (73rd Western Regional Conference)
• Barbara J. and Paul D. Saltman Distinguished Teaching Award (non-senate category)

His performance career spans major institutions including San Diego Opera, San Diego Symphony Orchestra, and La Jolla Civic Chorale, with notable roles as "Joe the Loiterer" in The Mother of us All, "Joe" in Showboat, "Judas" in Jesus Christ Superstar, and "Dagoo" in Moby Dick. Anderson leads internationally touring ensembles including the MLK Choir (performing across America and 9 countries), USD Gospel Choir, and UCSD Gospel Choir, establishing significant community engagement through vocal performance and cultural education.
