Kenichiro Taniguchi is an Associate Professor in the Department of Cell Biology, Neurobiology and Anatomy (CBNA) at the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW). He leads the Taniguchi Lab, focused on understanding molecular and cellular mechanisms of early human embryogenesis using stem cell-based models. His work addresses the 'black box' period of post-implantation development, leveraging interdisciplinary approaches combining stem cell biology, bioengineering, and proteomics.
Education: PhD in Cell Biology from the University of Virginia School of Medicine (2017), BS in Genetics, Cell Biology, and Development from the University of Minnesota (2012). Completed postdoctoral training at the University of Michigan Medical School.
Research Interests: The lab develops 3D human pluripotent stem cell models to study amniogenesis and epiblast formation. Key areas include: stem cell-driven amnion specification, BMP signaling pathways, cell polarity regulation, and lumenogenesis. The lab actively recruits researchers from diverse fields such as bioinformatics, biophysics, and engineering.
Lab Activities: Current projects investigate temporally resolved transcriptional cascades in amnion development and spatial proteomics of human epiblast models. The lab maintains an international collaboration network and has presented recent findings at the SSR Conference. Team members include postdocs, PhD candidates, and medical students.
