Dr. Kendra Johnson is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Teaching & Learning at Virginia Commonwealth University's School of Education and holds the Anna Lou Schaberg Endowed Professorship. She earned her Ph.D. in Education with a concentration in Curriculum, Culture, and Change from Virginia Commonwealth University.
Her research examines urban education through sociological lenses, focusing on race, gender, and class dynamics in teaching and learning environments. She maintains an active research agenda centered on the experiences of Black women educators and leaders within policy and power structures. Dr. Johnson's work advocates for transformative approaches to teacher preparation that address systemic inequities.
With professional experience as an elementary school teacher, educational leader, and DEI practitioner, she brings practical insights to her scholarly work on educational equity and teacher development.
