Ken Mitchell serves as Visiting Associate Professor of Educational Leadership at Manhattanville College, where he has taught doctoral-level courses and supervised dissertation research since joining the faculty in 2015.
His educational background includes a Doctor of Education from Fordham University, a Certificate of Advanced Study from SUNY New Paltz, and Bachelor of Arts/Master of Science degrees from SUNY Cortland.
Dr. Mitchell's research centers on K-12 leadership systems, with emphases on school reform accountability, superintendent and principal roles, school board dynamics, adolescent education, technology integration, literacy development, and strategic planning. His methodological preference spans qualitative and mixed-methods approaches.
With a career spanning since 1976, he currently serves as Executive Director of the Chief School Officials (representing Southern Westchester superintendents) and provides leadership consultation across 32+ Hudson Valley districts through School Leadership, LLC. He also edits the American Association of School Administrators’ Journal of Scholarship & Practice.
Dr. Mitchell actively engages in policy advocacy, having testified before the NY State Senate and Board of Regents, held leadership roles in SAANYS/NYSCOSS/NYSMSA/LHCOSS, and advised Congressman Jamaal Bowman on education policy.
