Kelsey Trom is an Associate Professor of English at Tusculum University, serving as Writing Program Coordinator and editor of The Tusculum Review. She also advises Sit Lux, the student literary journal, and holds the Harriet Reeves Neff Chair of Fine Arts. Her work appears in Makeout Creek and other publications.
Education: MFA in Fiction Writing from Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) and BA in English from University of Virginia. Prior to Tusculum, she taught as a TA/adjunct in Richmond-area institutions while working in retail, childcare, and landscaping.
Teaching focuses include composition, creative writing pedagogy, and courses on topics like Afrofuturism, environmental literature, and LGBTQ+ narratives. Professional interests emphasize educational equity, implicit bias mitigation, and strategies for developmental learners.
Outside academia, she swims with the Kingsport Viperfish team and maintains an artistic background from VCU's studio programs in Art Foundations and Illustration.
