Kelly Ritter is Professor and School Chair of Writing and Communication at Georgia Tech's School of Literature, Media, and Communication. Her research examines archival histories of U.S. writing programs and pedagogies, with a focus on cultural-historical conceptions of social class and literacy education. She has authored numerous books exploring writing instruction in historical contexts.
Education includes:
- Ph.D. in English from University of Illinois-Chicago
- M.F.A. in Creative Writing from Iowa Writers' Workshop
- B.A. in English and Communication Studies from University of Iowa
Ritter previously served as Professor of English and Writing Studies at University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, where she held administrative positions including Associate Dean of Liberal Arts and Sciences and Director of Undergraduate Rhetoric Program. She is past editor of College English and has held fellowships with the Big Ten Academic Alliance Leadership Program and ACC Academic Leaders Network.
