About
Kelly Jazvac is an Associate Professor in the Department of Studio Arts at Concordia University. Based in Montreal, her practice-based research explores the intersection of art, science, and environmental ethics through the transformation of plastic waste into sculptural installations and collages.
Her work interrogates themes of disposability, consumerism, and landscape by repurposing found materials like salvaged billboards and plastiglomerates (anthropogenic rock formations). She is a core member of the SSHRC-funded interdisciplinary research group The Synthetic Collective, collaborating with scientists and writers to address plastic pollution.
Recent exhibitions include MoMA (New York), Musée D’Art Contemporain (Montréal), and Art Museum at the University of Toronto. Her collaborative art-science research has been published in journals such as Nature Reviews and Science of the Total Environment. Media coverage includes The New Yorker, National Geographic, and Hyperallergic.
She teaches graduate and undergraduate studio art courses focusing on sculpture, installation, and research methodologies. Visit her website for portfolio details.
