Kelly Berishaj

Dr. Kelly Berishaj is an Associate Professor in the School of Nursing at Oakland University since 2007 and serves as the Forensic Nursing Program Director. Her expertise spans forensic nursing, critical care, and medical-surgical nursing. She holds a DNP from Oakland University, an MSN in Nursing Education from the University of Detroit Mercy, and a BSN from Madonna University.

Her research focuses on forensic nursing and professional nursing practice. Key areas include forensic nurse roles in in-patient settings, human trafficking education, and non-fatal strangulation. She has published extensively in journals like Journal of Emergency Nursing and Journal of Forensic Nursing, and contributed book chapters on sexual assault and intimate partner violence.

Berishaj has led grants totaling over $2 million, including initiatives on sexual assault nurse examiner education and AI-driven interventions to prevent sexual violence. She is a founding member of the Forensic Nursing Certification Board and affiliated with organizations like the International Association of Forensic Nurses.
