Dr. Kelly Anderson is a Professor and Program Director for the BA in Special Education & Elementary Education K-6 Dual Major at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. She holds a PhD from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (1999), an M.S. from Drake University (1985), and a B.S. from Drake University (1982). Her research focuses on differentiated instruction, collaboration between general and special education, family-agency partnerships, and teacher preparation. She has secured over $5 million in external and internal funding.
Dr. Anderson previously worked as a special education teacher in Iowa and later served as a school administrator and district assistant in North Carolina. She currently teaches undergraduate and graduate courses on instructional planning and collaboration. She serves as managing editor for The Journal of Special Education and on the editorial board of Teacher Education and Special Education.
Her professional roles include leadership in curriculum development, advocacy for diverse learners, and bridging general and special education practices. Her work emphasizes interdisciplinary approaches to education and systemic collaboration with families and agencies.
