Keith Rayner (1943-2015) was Distinguished Professor and Atkinson Family Chair of Psychology at UC San Diego. As the world's leading expert on eye movements in reading, he pioneered eye-tracking methodology and developed the influential E-Z Reader model of reading.
His research examined:
- Cognitive mechanisms of reading in children and adults
- Eye movement control in scene perception and visual search
- Parafoveal processing during reading
- Attention mechanisms in visual cognition
Rayner published over 400 peer-reviewed articles and authored 'The Psychology of Reading'. His work received continuous NIH funding and prestigious awards including the William James Award, APA Lifetime Achievement Award, and FABBS Research Award.
