Keith Obstein is a Professor of Medicine at the Vanderbilt University Medical Center and a Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Vanderbilt University. He serves as Assistant Dean for Simulation in Medical Education and directs the Center for Experiential Learning and Assessment (CELA) and the STORM Lab USA.

Dr. Obstein’s research focuses on robotics and device development for gastroenterology and endoscopic training. His work has been funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Science Foundation (NSF), and Cancer Research UK.
Recent publications highlight advancements in autonomous capsule robots and low-cost endoscopic systems, reflecting his dual commitment to medical innovation and accessibility in low-income settings. Notably, his team earned the Best Student Paper Award at the 2018 International Symposium on Medical Robotics.
