About
Keith Karoly is the Laurens N. Ruben Professor of Biology at Reed College's Division of Mathematical and Natural Sciences. His research investigates plant evolutionary ecology, including mating system variation, floral diversification in mustards, and conservation genetics of Pacific Northwest species like Delphinium and Garry oak.
He teaches courses in Vascular Plant Diversity, Molecular Ecology, and Conservation Genetics. Current projects focus on genetic architecture of floral traits, phylogeography of rare larkspurs, and evolutionary developmental biology of stamen morphology in Brassicaceae.
Publications demonstrate expertise in experimental evolution, pollinator-mediated selection, and conservation genetics, with recent work on correlational selection in plant populations. Student theses under his supervision frequently address plant ecology and genetic diversity conservation.
